Borneo: Paradise Found

Borneo: Paradise Found

Most travellers do not realise that Borneo is not a country at all, but an island. The world’s third largest island in fact—situated in south East Asia—is shared between Indonesia (Kalimantan), Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak) and Brunei, one of the world’s richest kingdoms. Spanning an area of almost 800,000 square kilometres, it is located in the Malay Archipelago, south of the Philippines and north of Java.

One of the most bio diverse places on earth, Borneo offers a unique blend of landscapes and topographies. From a choice of beaches like the stunning Mataking Island Beach and Kelambu Beach in Kudat—located on the ‘tip of Borneo’—with their vibrant coral reefs; to dense, misty rainforests that are home to wildlife like clouded leopards, orangutans, pygmy elephants, and proboscis monkeys; Borneo is a treat for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.

Trek through ancient jungles in Sabah or Sarawak, capture photographic memories of orangutans at the Tanjung Puting National Park, cruise along the Kinabatangan River, or explore Kinabalu Park—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—home to the majestic Mount Kinabalu, southeast Asia’s highest peak. Mingle with welcoming indigenous communities, taste flavourful local cuisine, and experience the deep connection between the people and the land. Whether you’re a nature lover, adrenaline junkie, or culture aficionado, Borneo promises a journey that’s both wild and wonderful.

The best time to visit Borneo is between March and October, considered the dry season and ideal for outdoor activities and wildlife viewing.
